General Information:

Yucca filamentosa, is a virtually stemless broadleaf evergreen shrub with a unique form. The leaves are thick, about 1 inch wide and up to 2 to 3 feet long fibrous blades, which extend both vertically and horizontally from the center of the basal stem, terminating in a sharp point like a needle. The margins of the leaves are decorated with long curly threads or "filaments" that peel back as the leaf grows, eventually dropping off on older leaves. All yuccas have fleshy taproots that extend deep into the soil, mining nutrients and water from deeper soils. These deeper roots can extend more than 20 feet into the ground and can be several inches in diameter. In summer, 6-petaled drooping creamy or yellowish-white flowers bloom from a towering, sturdy flower stalk. There are up to several dozen individual flowers on an inflorescence, they are white and about 2 inches long. The flowers attract bees and butterflies. If they’re pollinated, 2-inch-long, green-brown seed-holding capsules will follow the flowers. The plant dies after flowering and fruiting but produces lateral buds that start new plants around the edges of the original.

How to use:

Powdered Herb:

There are different ways to use powdered herb.

Food Preparation: You can add powdered herbs to any super food, herbal smoothie, sauces, spreads and even cookies. Also, for children, you can mix powdered herbs with honey or glycerin to make a paste. The thicker the paste, the more potent and herbal in taste. The sweet taste of honey and glycerin will help the medicine go down. This method is also known as "Electuaries".

Capsules: Encapsulating your own powdered herb at home, give you assurance that the contents of the capsules are pure herb and no filler or any other products. These capsules can be taken with liquid.

Poultice: Poultice can be made with an herbal powder and liquid (mostly water) to form a paste which is then applied to the skin. This method is very helpful for skin conditions.

Herbal shot: Powdered herb can be mixed with water, fruit juice or other liquid to make herbal shot.
