Pterocarpus is a genus of pantropical trees in the Fabaceae family.there are more than 30species but Pterocarpus marsupium being one of the most known members of this genus.
Bijasar is heart-wood of average to large-sized deciduous tree up to 30 meters in height and 2-3 meters in grith found mostly in the tropical zone of throughout in India in the hilly region.
From thousands of years, it has been used in Ayurveda-The most ancient system of Indian traditional medicine. In the southern part of India and traditional Ayurvedic practitioners often use a cup made from the heartwood of Bijasar to fill the cup with water and allow it to stand overnight. Volatile oils in the wood leach into the water, turning it blue. This water is then drunk the next day.
How to use:
Decoctions are suitable for roots, barks, large seeds & berries, and other dense material. The simple way to make decoction is, in a saucepan, add 1 tablespoon of dried herbs to 1 cup of water. Bring the water to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 30-60 minutes. Strain and squeeze out as much as liquid as possible and enjoy!
- You can sweeten your herbal decoctions with bit of honey, natural fruit juice, stevia leaves powder and or licorice root powder.
