General Information:

Beet root are eaten raw as salad or cooked. Beet root is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant, which originated in Southern Europe and Western Asia, and has been developed in to three distinct verities specialized for different edible plant of the plant: Swiss chard, which has large leaves and prominent flashy stems is used as leafy vegetable; Sugar beet which has very large, irregular shape fleshy root that lacked the red color typically associated with beets, and is used as source of sugar and as animal fodder; and beet root which has a red to purple fleshy spherical root and is used as root vegetable. The leaf, leaf stalks and root of beet plants are edible.

The sugar beet is major commercial crop due to its high concentration sucrose, which is extracted to produce table sugar. It was developed in Germany in the late 18th century after the roots of beet where found to contain the sugar. Usually deep red roots of garden beet can be baked, boiled, or steamed, and often served as cooked vegetable or cold as salad vegetable. Raw beet is added to salad.

How to use:

Powdered Herb:
