The tree reaches 150 feet tall with a trunk with 10 feet in diameter. It has conic crown with level branches and dropping branches. The leaves are needle like, mostly 2-5 cm long, slender, borne singly on long shoots and in dense cluster of the 20-30 on short shoots. it has dark-blue-green needlelike leaves, yellow male cones, and green female seed cones. They vary from bright green to blue green in color. The female cones are barrel shaped 7-15 cm long and 5-10 cm broad and disintegrate when mature to release the winged seeds.
